Fake Emails

Be on alert for emails appearing to come from people you know & trust, like Dr. Dwight Gunter, or other district & local church leadership. Bad actors will often employ a “spoofing” scam. This occurs when a scammer forges an email address that looks similar to an authentic address to send fake messages to people in that leader's contact list. If you receive suspicious email from Nazarene leadership, here is what you need to do:

-Do not reply to the suspicious email.
-Do not click on any links or download any attachments.
-Delete the email immediately.

Receiving such an email does not mean that the legitimate email account was hacked, but rather that a spammer used a similar address in the “From: (address)” line. To be safe, best practice for all parties involved is to change your passwords regularly & use Multi Factor Authentication. If you are ever unsure about an email you receive, please call the person represented in the email to confirm its authenticity & follow the steps above.
